For the famous choreographer Maurice Béjart dance is „total theatre“, not only steps. His masterpiece „Ring um den Ring“ is one of the most monumental ballet projects of the 20th century. Based on excerpts of Richard Wagner’s musical composition Maurice Béjart created his own comment, as he calls it, on the Nibelungen-Saga. Through his whole working life obsessed by the work of Richard Wagner he points out the underlying depth of the main characters in his staging, where he is connecting symbols with powerful dancing.
For reasons relating to scheduling, this great event in the season of the Staatsballett is to be preceded by a preview on 28th March 2013, accompanied with artists’ talks regarding the events that took place as this production of the century was created. Taking to the podium in the Rang Foyer of the Deutsche Oper Berlin: Bertrand d’At (long-term assistant to Maurice Béjart and head of the new production), Michaël Denard (narrator | dancer and actor in the ensemble of Maurice Béjart), Peter Sykora (Sets and Costumes) and Dr. Christiane Theobald (dramatic advisor for the original production). The premiere will take place without Elizabeth Cooper.
