The central aim of the National Singing Contest Berlin 2010 is to discover and promote young talent for the stage. Participants in the Junior section of Europe's largest national song competition - in 2010 devoted to opera, operetta and concert performances - are young, between 17 to 22, yet time and time again we are witness to young personalities displaying surprising stage presence and extraordinary musical and technical proficiency.

The best Junior candidates from the national heats travel to Berlin for the Finals, which will be held in the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 10th to 12th November. These young, talented performers will present a wide repertoire of lieder and arias before a jury and audience.

Prize winners in the Junior section will give a concert at 3pm on 13th November, likewise in the foyer of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Many past winners are members of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble or regular guests of the Opera. These include Reinhard Hagen, Michaela Kaune, Nadja Michael, Christine Schäfer, Doris Soffel and Michael Volle.
