About the performance

Verdi’s AIDA remains one of the most frequently performed operas – and not simply because of its legendary Triumphal March. Peaks include arias such as “O patria mia” and “Celeste Aida” and the closing duet “O terra addio”. Our concertante performance features these and other numbers: Aida is rendered by the young Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson (instead of Elena Stikhina), who made waves as an Operalia award winner before springing to prominence on the opera stages of Europe. Judit Kutasi returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin to sing Amneris, a role that resulted in rave reviews for the young mezzo-soprano at the Arena di Verona. And Jorge de León, a popular stalwart of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, lends his tenor vocals to Radamès, the Egyptian general. Ensemble members of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, including Markus Brück as Amonasro, are also involved, and Giampaolo Bisanti conducts the house orchestra.
