Informationen zum Werk

Opera in three acts - original version of FIDELIO
Libretto by Joseph Sonnleithner
first performed on 20 November 1805 at the Theater an der Wien
Concert performance as part of the Musikfest Berlin 2020 on 15 September 2020 in the Berlin Philharmonie

About the performance

Beethoven wrote only one opera, albeit in a number of different versions. The first edition appeared a full nine years before the world premiere in 1814 of his FIDELIO and reveals the opera novice’s heavy debt not only to the leading musical dramatists of his day but also to Mozart. At Musikfest Berlin Donald Runnicles presents a concert performance of LEONORE. Singers include Flurina Stucki, Elena Tsallagova, Albert Pesendorfer, Markus Brück and David Butt Philip.
